Why Lewandowski Or De Bruyne Can BEAT Messi To The Ballon D'Or... | Continental Club
With the season temporarily suspended due to the ongoing pandemic, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to analyse the Ballon D’Or contenders from the season so far.
Does Robert Lewandowski’s ridiculous 39 goals in 33 games for Bundesliga and Champions League chasing Bayern Munich make him favourite? Does Kevin De Bruyne’s 16 League assists, just 4 off the European record, put him in the driving seat or will Manchester City’s disappointing League campaign count against him?
What of 6 time winner Lionel Messi? His Barcelona side may have endured a frustrating campaign, with 5 League defeats and injuries to crucial players leading to Ernesto Valverde’s dismissal. But Messi has shone in the League and Champions League with a ridiculous 36 goal contributions in 28 games, surely putting him in the reckoning once again.
As for outside shouts, do Ciro Immobile, Sadio Mane, Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner all deserve the top gong? And what of the coming man of European football, Kylian Mbappe, who was no doubt set to wow the world once again this summer prior to Euro 2020’s postponement?
